My daughter likes a bedtime book called 'Goodnight Peter'. Peter is scared of sleeping on his own. Mrs Rabbit prepares a lovely room for him to sleep in and knits him a cuddly toy from scratch, which solves his fears. Presumably, there is a Mr Rabbit somewhere, but Mrs Rabbit seems to be responsible for everything. He doesn't appear. Nor does he appear in ANY OF THE FAMILY PICTURES ON THE WALLS. It's just Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail, Peter, Mrs Rabbit, a ghostly blank space beside her head. Is he dead? Having an affair? They never speak of him. I always thought, if you give a mouse a cookie, there will just be more mice later… but I’m a New Yorker. It’s mostly what I see.

Why wasn't Walter the Baker more worried about the food safety concerns of having a cat in his bakery prior to creating that pretzel?

Having found many, many caterpillars in my garden, I can say with strict confidence that none of them ever ate through a cupcake. They are all content to inhabit my apples.

How does a moose use a sock puppet if it has a hoof?? But I appreciate his love of raspberry jam.

The Cat in the Hat is clearly a socialist, and it's fair to say he has been woefully misrepresented.

I love Horton, I really do. It's hard for me to find fault in him at all, especially given the lengths he goes through to protect his child. But I'd hate to see the custody agreement he had to work out with that bird.

There is no way that a sunflower seed could possibly travel on the wind that far--over water, over mountains, over fields... Just stop. Those seeds are chunky.

Wait….its spelled tunes?! My mind. Is. Blown. Why? Why would it be? Also, great books to really throw into the gauntlet. Peter Pan is definitely a jerk. Why do I still love him? I refuse The Giving Tree because it’s too sad but I’ve never thought of it as a substitute for a woman’s existence and now I’ll never not think of it that way….wowza.
